Kaiun Densetsu

Kaiun Densetsu is long-aged shochu that we produce with uncompromising adherence to the rich taste and depth of brown sugar shochu. From in our distillery in Uken Village, this high-grade product carries the history of Amami Oshima Kaiun Shuzo.
After repeated trial and error, we successfully created the optimal taste with distillation under normal pressure and aging for five years or longer.

Distillation under normal pressure is traditional. With this method, shochu is distilled without controlling the pressure inside the still container. It brings out the flavor of the raw ingredients very well, clarifying the characteristics of each type of shochu. In addition to alcohol, a plenty of flavor components of brown sugar are blended into shochu, giving it a strong flavor and aroma.

Each December our distillery craftsmen painstakingly produce 1,000 bottles of Kaiun Densetsu with appreciation for the past year and the determination to once again do their best in the following year.

The label features the letter for the Chinese zodiac animal for the following new year, reflecting our wish for happiness in the coming year. We ask Mr. Iho Kawakami, artist and spatial designer, to design the letter. Fans of Kaiun Densetsu await the new bottle every year and add it to their collection.
